General Overview
BMO Capital Markets is a leading North American financial services
provider offering investment and corporate banking, advisory services,
treasury and market risk management, institutional investing, and
research.
Xonos is working with BMO Capital Markets to develop a tool to
better manage the vast and complex data it amasses on cleared trades.
This data is collected both during the trading day and historically.
The Challenge
- Create a data management tool that will allow business users
to access trading data without any knowledge of the underlying
systems in which it resides.
- Provide users with an intuitive, Windows-like data dictionary
to view available data and their meaning in easy-to-understand
language.
- Allow users to create and save queries based on terms found
in the system.
- Deploy the application with the least amount of desktop configuration
possible.
The Solution
- A server application that contains a dictionary of meta-terms,
definitions and information on how to query the underlying data
across multiple data stores.
- A browser-based client application built utilizing AJAX, that
mimics the familiar feel of Windows, but requires no desktop configuration
to use.
- The architecture of the system will also allow the system to
be easily maintained, and for data definitions to be updated over
time.
